FOR WHO AND FOR WHAT?
Come back in 12 months and we should be able to share with you the type of scenarios our customers have applied the dewin open:close.
At the moment we can only rely on our research, the basis of early discussions with potential customers and a bit of our instinct.
These are examples of the sectors and type of applications we expect to see dewin open:close adding value to:
FARMING – Notifying farmers when a gate is open when it should be firmly shut, reducing the risk of valuable breeding stock mixing with others.
CONSTRUCTION – Equipping temporary building site compounds with sensors to alert when various access points with gates or doors are opened.
HIGHWAYS – Notification when manhole covers are moved accidentally or on purpose.
GENERAL INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS – Alerting owners when various access points are opened.
UTILITIES – Capturing data when lids for sewage overflow outlets are used.
TOURISM – Deploying sensors to track access to lodges or glamping units.
RECREATION - Collecting data on use of various golfing holes by monitoring frequency of pulling the flag pin in and out of the hole.
COMMUNICATIONS – Track use of various access points to infrastructure in rural locations.
INSURANCE – Securing a timestamp for various type of incidents to improve the rate of prosecution and retrieving stolen goods.
PUBLIC AMENITIES – Send alerts when lifebuoy cabinets are opened, which can be useful if there is a track record of tampering in the area.
WATERWAYS – Monitoring use of canal locks to better understand traffic flow.
NATURE RESERVES – Collating data on visits to bird hides to improve understanding of use patterns.
To some extent, the applications for dewin open:close is only limited by our creativity. To work however, the solution has to offer tangible value to the user, whether that is financial, risk reduction, efficiency gains, better data to improve decisions or peace of mind.
And to make it work, a dewin open:close solution needs to be within the coverage area of a LoRaWAN gateway. If you’re unsure of coverage in your area, talk with us and we can support you to find out.
Do remind me in March 2022 to write a blog under the same heading, just to see as a matter of interest how many of the above scenarios have materialised.
